Guiding Framework (Theoretical Orientation)

The approach I use stems from the belief that our problems are opportunities for change. They are compasses directing us towards purposeful exploration, leading to deep healing. with that comes the removal of thought patterns, behaviours or emotions that are no longer beneficial.

Here are some examples of my treatment methods:

  • Working together to identify CORE BELIEFS - Why we have them, how they have been created, how they have served us, and where they impede growth. we then create and incorporate new beliefs to build upon.

  • Using NARRATIVE THERAPY we examine the lens through which we perceive the world; we make shifts to accommodate new understandings and feelings.

  • BODY SENSORY therapy incorporates holistic healing; not only on the level of the mind but also on the physical level. Understanding that the body has its own intelligence can offer great insight and release. this is often a very effective modality for treating residual trauma, depression and anxiety.

  • For Family or couples work, ATTACHMENT-BASED theoretical approaches can be beneficial in identifying:

    • Various familial roles

    • Understanding holding patterns and unconscious behaviours

    • Reactive functions that keep perpetuating feelings of being 'stuck'.

  • Using tools from a MINDFULNESS-BASED COGNITIVE THERAPY approach helps build an awareness that translates to everyday life. the growth and insights gained during our sessions will provide lost-lasting benefits.

  • You are welcome to book a new client appointment through the contact page. If you have any questions about booking, fees, or availability, please email me at therapy@nicolafortin.com and I will respond to you as soon as possible.

  • I will give you a call at your convenience once you provide me with your phone number and we can go over your goals, reasons and rational for engaging in therapy at this time. You can also ask me questions about what my approach to your issues might include and you can determine if we are a good fit for working together.

  • Each session is 55-60 minutes. I book my sessions back to back therefore will do my best to honour our time together and respect the upcoming client waiting by being mindful of ending on time. This means that at times I may run late depending on the bookings that day.
